The Sandlot has generally billed itself as a cultural and social hub for the D.C.-area neighborhoods that house it. For Anacostia, it plans to do even more when it opens there. Kevin Hallums and Ian Callender, founders of Sandlot, are mapping out the new 25,000-square-foot outdoor bar and event venue, set to open at 633 Howard Road SE as an anchor for the Bridge District development. It'll be part events space, part social gathering place, part community forum and part business hub.
Suite Nation's founders say the venue will have a total capacity of 1,000, as well as rentable event space, in what will be an ambitious expansion for its brand. It's considerably bigger than the 5,000 to 7,500 square feet that Suite Nation has designed so far Sandlot in its seasonal locations set to reopen April 1 for the summer in Georgetown, Tysons and Navy Yard.
